Lads caught smoking at the school I attended were caned (over trousers) by the Headmaster, who told you that smoking was a filthy habit. Ironically he smoked a pipe and his study had, what was to me, a delightful aroma of pipe smoke. He didn't actually smoke as he whacked you though
